It appears that the evolution of Jim Tressel continues.  As mentioned in a previous blog entry, when Tressel came to OSU, he had a tendency to move the best athletes from offense to defense.  This was a winning formula in 2002, and it brought us a 14-0 record and the undisputed national championship.

But the tendency to put the best athletes on defense slowed to a halt in recent years, and has actually reversed.  When top cornerbacks Tedd Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzales arrived, they were switched to the WR position.  That tendency has now continued with reports of Safety Grant Schwartz and DB Devon Torrence being moved to the WR position on the OSU offense.

I don’t leave out the possibility that I am reading too much into the situation.  Players are malleable commodities, especially early on in their college careers, and you put your best athletes where they are needed most.  Perhaps the 2002 team was just short on defensive talent at the beginning.  But seeing as how they turned into the best defense in college football that year, perhaps not.
