The offense improved this week in two ways. First, they did not wait around until the second half to get going. They put the truck in gear right from the start and went up 28-0 before anyone could even catch his breath. Secondly, while Todd Boeckman underthrew a few balls, the quality of his throws went up overall.
The offensive line looked really good this game. Pass blocking and run blocking were equally strong. Northwestern really got no pressure on Todd Boeckman all day long.
At QB, Boeckman looked very good, and had none of those situations wherein balls were bouncing off the hands of the CBs. He made one bad choice, again throwing late over the middle which ended in an interception on the two yard line. He also underthrew the ball a few times, even on the touchdown grabs. There were at least three times when the receivers had to slow down and come back for the ball. Only on Robiskie’s second touchdown was the WR hit while in stride. The third touchdown was thrown just a tiny bit behind Robiskie as well. But overall, it was a great day for Boeckman, and a day which showed improvement.
As far as the running game went, the only thing that stopped Beanie Wells this game was an ankle injury in the third quarter, which is not expected to linger. With Brandon Saine out after having his knee scoped, it was important that Maurice Wells step up and take charge. This he did, scoring two touchdowns, though he did have a very uncharacteristic fumble.
The receivers had a field day. Brian Robiskie had three touchdown receptions, and would have had three more if Tressel hadn’t pulled in the reigns like the class guy that he is. Ray Small got into the act, scoring his first touchdown of the season by getting behind a CB on third and long. It’s impressive to be able to get behind a CB on third and long since it is such an obvious passing down. Small also looked very good returning kicks and punts.
Brian Hartline has continued his tradition of making key receptions over the middle. When this team needs a catch, you can usually count on Hartline.

Two turnovers at home and Penn State only scores 17 points? And then they say “We’re back!”?
It will take more than a video of a game from 2005 to beat OSU this year. Though, after we beat Penn State, you can still watch your video and imagine what might have been, if it makes you feel better.
