Just as I predicted, OSU merely hopes to avoid blowout again. Just like last year, OSU’s weaknesses were revealed in the Illinois game. And just like last year, I could have entitled this article, “The Fraud Revealed.” I started taking notes on the game in the 2nd quarter and here are my in game play by play notes – stay tuned for Tuesday morning analysis.

OSU lines up for a short field goal attempt with a chance to go up 13-10. LSU player bowls over the right side of OSU’s line and blocks Pretorius’ 38 yard field goal attempt. What a display of power! It was as if the OSU player wasn’t there.

3rd and 1 at the OSU 44 – OSU must be expecting another Hester or Flynn run but LSU mixes it up with a great call to the tight end and catches OSU napping. Laurinaitis bites on the play and leaves the middle wide open. 18 yard gain to OSU 26.

1st down – Flynn rushes for no gain

2nd and 10 – Flynn dumps it off to Holliday who goes for 9 yards. Gholston gives up on the play. OSU can’t handle the speed of LSU.

3rd and 1 again – Flynn keeps it for 2 more and a first down. Larry Grant makes the stop. Announcers point out that Grant is 0-3 in National Championship games – could be 0-4 soon enough.

1st and 10 at 15 – Flynn throws incomplete.

2nd down – Flynn keeps for 5 yards. OSU can’t stop LSU’s rushing offense. Maybe LSU should bring in their no. 2 QB.

3rd and 5 – Flynn hits Lafell in left corner of end zone for TD. 17-10 and 17 unanswered by LSU. Game announcers will have to quit referring to OSU’s Defense as #1 in the country. #1 against cupcakes maybe. How will OSU respond? Will they fold again?

7:25 in 2nd quarter – OSU takes over at their 31.

1st down – Wells up middle for nothing. Dorsey with the big stop.

2nd – Boeckman tries to go to Hartline but Hartline has no speed against these LSU corners. You won’t see Hartline in the NFL. College is the end of the line for him.

3rd and 10 – Boeckman gets walloped while throwing the ball up for grabs. He pays the price again with an interception. Again, LSU’s corners are way too fast and skilled for OSU’s pedestrian receivers. I got to see that again. Boeckman was completely blown up on this play.

LSU takes over at OSU 24 after the interception return.

1st and 10 – OSU is slow coming out from sideline. Not a good sign. Defense may be giving up. Flynn to Byrd for 8 yards to OSU 16.

2nd and 2 – TE Dickson wide open to the one yard line. LSU seems to be toying with the “#1 defense in the country.”

1st and goal Hester stopped.

2nd – Hester stopped again.

3rd – Will they go for it on 4th down if they don’t make it? Time out LSU. Will Flynn keep it? No, Hester again and touchdown LSU. I disagree with the announers, Hester made it over the goal line on first effort.

Huge possession coming up for OSU. 24 unanswered by LSU. Reality is hitting OSU and its fans. OSU doesn’t deserve to be in this game.

4:16 to go in the half.

Small takes kickoff and runs backwards. He doesn’t have enough speed to do that. Gets killed by LSU coverage team.

1st down at 20 yard line – Boeckman almost intercepted again. Hartline can’t break free.

2nd down – Wells gets slammed trying to cut it back – 1 yard gain.

3rd – LSU corners have too much speed and can cover OSU easily 1 on 1. Just as I say that Hartline gains 13 yards.

1st – Hartline tries an end around but again not fast enough.

2nd and 4 – Boeckman sacked and fumbles the ball but recovered by OSU. Officials don’t call another of the numerous holds by OSU’s offensive line.

3rd and 13 – The blitz in on and Boeckman has to get rid of it under pressure. He throws short to Hartline for a few yards.

4th and 7 at OSU 37. LSU calls timeout. Will they go for the block? No, OSU punter gets off a good one but too good as it goes into the endzone for a touchback.

1st down LSU – will they run or open it up with a pass? Hester runs for a couple and it looks like LSU is content to go in 24-10.

Nationwide Kevin Federline commercial is a classic. I can picture Hartline in it instead.

Whaaat? Going VIP!

Whaat? Going VIP!

Whaat? Going VIP!

Hartline!

Uh, what?

Fries!

Thank you!

It’s beginning to feel like LSU has to beat OSU worse then Florida beat them last year. Hester may actually be a tougher runner than Mike Hart although he didn’t show that in Kentucky game. Here are the main points from are halftime analysts. Eddie George is taking a beating for hailing from Ohio State but takes it in stride.

Jimmy Johnson – Level of competition is too high in SEC.

Urban Meyer – Focuses on LSU’s 17 min of ball possession in first half.

George – Agrees that blocked field goal was the big momentum changer in the game.

We go down to field with Troy Smith and Jamarcus Russell.

Smith says OSU needs to continue running the ball and that THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN SPEED BETWEEN SEC AND BIG TEN. Oh good gawd! This guy is a complete idiot. Hasn’t he seen how LSU has blanketed OSU’s receivers.

Jimmy Johnson disagrees – OSU has to go open up its offense and forget trying to cover LSU man to man on defense.

Meyer – 1st drive by LSU will be critical for OSU Defense.

Eddie George – OSU has to hold LSU to 3 and out an first possession. George is asked if it feels the same way for OSU as last year. I’ve gotta feeling it feels much worse. What about the OSU locker-room? What’s going on in there? What is Tressel saying?

Trinity lateral is voted #1 game changing event of year – ridiculous!

OSU can only go so far on emotion. OSU coaches probably played Mike Hart’s comments for all they were worth before Michigan game. Now Tressel’s DVD of the abuse they took for the Florida debacle is only going to hurt OSU’s weak psyches.

LSU takes over at its 20. And guess what Williams goes for 10 yards on 1st down.

Flynn hits Lafell for five yards. Great one hander!

2nd and 5 – Perrilloux comes in. Great decision not to pitch the ball.

3rd and 1 – Hester goes for 2 and first down. OSU has no answer for him. Announcer: “He’s like money in the bank.”

1st down – quick lineup catches OSU napping again (shades of Illinois game – Tressel can’t handle the quick change). Flynn hits Doucet for 7 yards from a bunch formation to the right.

2nd down and 3 – Holliday, the speedster, goes for 2 yards. Gholston gets creamed on a block from #70.

3rd and short – LSU in obvious run formation. “Stop us if you can.” Flynn for 3 yards and first down.

1st down on OSU 47 – Holliday for 2 yards.

2nd – Flynn throws it away and called for intentional grounding.

3rd and 23 – LSU calls timeout. Somebody is providing aerial coverage of the Superdome. Why exactly? Flynn throws it away.

4th down – LSU punting. Flag, Austin Spitler roughs the punter. How did he miss the ball? What a bonehead play? LSU gets ball and first down. If they score here, it’s over.

1st and 10 – Hester runs. Another flag? OSU again – personal foul and 15 more yards. Cameron Heyward doesn’t enjoy getting blocked by the tight end. 2 bonehead mistakes in a row.

1st and 10 from OSU 29 – Hester for 9 more yards.

2nd and 1 – Flynn to Scott for 16 yards to OSU 4 yard line. OSU could’ve been called again for a late hit out of bounds but no call by official.

1st and goal – Doucet makes OSU tacklers look terrible. Nos. 4, 20, and 21 blow tackles. What a joke!

31-10 and 31 unanswered points by LSU. When will OSU quit? Now’s the time for the Federline commercial again.

“Going VIP. What?”

Cooper, err uhh, Tressel is losing control of his players. OSU fans shown with arms folded. What a disaster for Ohio State. They had LSU stopped and then some idiot kid roughs the punter. LSU must be a team of destiny.

Kickoff again to Small who shows zero speed on the return.

1st down – Wells runs for a few.

2nd – Boeckman runs which appears to be all OSU has. Good way to lose a QB.

1st down – Wells – nothing.

2nd and 10 from LSU 48 – Boeckman to Saine who takes a huge hit all for 3 yards.

3rd and 7 – Boeckman eats it – sacked by Highsmith. OSU punts and LSU takes over on their 11.

1st down – OSU defender is creeping in and Flynn audibles to receiver. Receiver didn’t get the signal and misses play altogether.

2nd – Hester for 6 yards.

3rd – Flynn hits Dickson on a slant for a first down. Huge play! LSU spreads the formation and Laurinaitus can’t cover the faster LSU player.

1st – Hester for 2 yards.

2nd – Another miscommunication between QB and receiver and LSU pays for it. OSU with the interception.

1st and goal for OSU – Wells on 3 straight plays ends up losing yardage bring up and 4th down from the 5.

Tressel risks being a goat if they don’t score. LSU D line is too strong. Boeckman hits Robiskie. LSU didn’t get enough pressure on Boeckman. OSU exhales upon receiving the gift. 31-17. Really doesn’t prove anything. OSU needs to show that it can sustain a scoring drive vs. LSU. Unlikely they’ll get any more gifts from here on out.

Will OSU onside kick it? No. LSU runs two plays and quarter ends.

3rd and 6 – big play but OSU’s offense has done nothing. Flynn keeps for 5 yards to LSU 38.

Another great punt – 60 yarder that carries into endzone. These punters are good.

Cut to corpulent OSU band member exhaling again. Does OSU have an answer on offense?

1st down – Wells up middle for 2.

2nd – Pass to Hartline to the 40 but Boeckman gets whacked again.

1st – Wells goes for 10 – is OSU waking up?

1st – Pass to Robiskie to the 37.

1st – Boeckman killed again. Overthrew due to pressure by LSU.

2nd and 10 – Boeckman lit up again. You run and you will pay dearly.

3rd and 4 – Boeckman sacked again.

4th and 7 – OSU is going for it. Incredible! They have a whole quarter left. This could be the game right here. Tressel could look like a royal idiot! Boeckman gets absolutely hammered. Why did he try to throw that? There was no chance. He was hit like a golf ball on a tee. OSU tried to run some sort of receiver pick play. LSU is too fast for that. OSU gets away with personal foul after the tackle. They look terrible. Tressel blew the game right here. He panicked too soon. Still almost 11 minutes left! Wow! LSU gets flagged instead for unsportsmanlike conduct. They lose 15 critical yards. A field goal could ice this. Cut to anguished OSU fans. That penalty could keep OSU in this.

LSU goes three and out and has to punt. Penalty was critical. Could’ve been going for 3. OSU band is ridiculous. They play after each down. OSU not dead yet but barely breathing and pulse is weak. Why did Boeckman try to throw that pass, the LSU guy was right on top of him.

OSU takes over after touchback. 9:02 left in game.

1st – Wells for 3 – clock running.

2nd – Short pass to Robiskie but short of first down. OSU is in no hurry at all. Time is critical. What is Tressel doing?

3rd and 1 – OSU still wasting lots of time. Wells comes up short.

4th – they get the first but take 2 minutes off the clock to get 10 yards. HUGE MISTAKE! Poor coaching! What are they doing?

1st down – LSU pressure is coming but Boeckman hits Small for 1st down

1st – Boeckman fumbles again, gets lucky and recovers it. 6:06 left.

2nd down – Hartline misses ball.

3rd and 15 – Timeout LSU.

Boeckman intercepted again. That’s ballgame folks. Game, set and match, LSU. Hartline tries in vain to strip the ball away. Hey, Hartline – Fries! Thankyou!

5:43 left

1st down – Flynn hits Doucet for 5 yards to OSU 48.

2nd – Flynn for a yard or two. OSU band is ridiculous – playing at every break. Someone tell those idiots that the game is over.

3rd and 5 – Flynn to Doucet for 5.

4 and 1 – Miles goes for it. Flynn picks up the first.

Hester on first down and OSU finally calls a timeout.

2nd and 6 – Flynn for 9 yards and first down to OSU 30.

1st – Murphy rushes for 24 yards to OSU 6 yard line. Another score by LSU upcoming? And OSU band fires up its fight song.

1st and goal and guess what Dickson burns OSU again. 38-17. Cut to Tressel working the gum hard. Announcers mention that OSU could be back in game next year. Oh my gawd? No, this team is mentally done. I don’t care who’s coming back.

OSU is trying desperately to score in order to temper the blowout. They do but it’s still a blowout.

Onside kick and Jenkins take no class free shot at LSU receiver. OSU calls its last timeout. Ridiculous! They had no chance.

Quotes from ESPN gang – OSU is 0-9 in bowl games vs SEC teams.

OSU won’t play nobody non-conference next year.

Announcers definitely disappointed with game and clamor for LSU vs. USC match up.

OSU press conference going on with sounds of LSU revelers just outside.
