Apparently Buckeye fanaticism extends to the Columbus Dispatch writers as well. Perhaps a bit over-exuberant with Buckeye joy, Rob Oller published the following in the Columbus Dispatch:
-
Once he decided to leave Michigan last month, Boren, an offensive lineman from Pickerington North, began to weigh his options. Ohio State led the pack of possibilities, but the thought of joining the Buckeyes created anxiety on several fronts, not the least of which was whether those responsible for creating and upholding the OSU culture — alumni, teammates, coaches, fans and students — would welcome a Michigan man into the fold.
No doubt most would view Boren’s leaving Michigan as a positive; not so certain was how they would react to a former Wolverines player exchanging his winged helmet for buckeye leaf stickers — an unprecedented transfer according to OSU historian Jack Park.
Maybe they should take a cue from previous Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, who according to a source close to the situation worked behind the scenes to help Boren obtain his scholarship release from Michigan. Carr even assured Boren that Ohio State is the closest thing to Michigan that he would find and that there are “good people” in Columbus.
Carr denied the Dispatch report via Michigan athletics spokesperson Bruce Madej, who said the coach was unavailable for an interview Friday night.
“Lloyd told me that’s a lie,” Madej said.
Oller backpedaled a little in response to a query from the Ann Arbor news but also exhibited some Clintonesque dodging:
“Carr didn’t necessarily initiate a recommendation for Ohio State, but at some point did point out that the two programs share similar traits.” He also added that he’d reconfirmed with his source that Carr helped Boren get his release from Michigan.
Wonder what traits the programs share – beating SEC teams in bowl games? Could that be one?
Anything to sell papers, huh, Rob?

Two turnovers at home and Penn State only scores 17 points? And then they say “We’re back!”?
It will take more than a video of a game from 2005 to beat OSU this year. Though, after we beat Penn State, you can still watch your video and imagine what might have been, if it makes you feel better.
