Sounds strange, doesn’t it? Ohio State desperately needs to beat a 3-8 Michigan team to salvage their season. Think about it. Nothing has changed in the last three seasons. Ohio State faced a top-ranked team and got blown out in each of the last three years. This year, it mercifully occurred very early on in the season. Ohio State fans were not allowed to let their imaginations run wild over the course of an entire season only to be deflated again by hard, cold reality in early January. Thank you, Pete Carroll and the USC Trojans for sparing OSU fans months of counseling and many vials of anti-depressants.

Not too far along in the season later, Penn State handed OSU its second loss of the year. Typical of Big Ten teams, Penn State couldn’t stand success, promptly fell to lowly Iowa and left us with the stark reality that the Big Ten really still isn’t that good.

Michigan has nothing to lose. If they fall to OSU today, there really isn’t much difference between 3-8 and 3-9, is there? They are expected to lose anyway. And does it really help the rivalry if OSU beats up on a 3-8 Michigan team? I’m sure many OSU fans will feel that it was a great victory. Most Michigan fans don’t care. That being the case, how does that help college football’s greatest rivalry? It doesn’t. OSU has everything to lose today. Let’s see if they play like it.

Buckeye fans are praying that Michigan State somehow beats Penn State. That way, OSU will back into another bowl game it doesn’t deserve to be in. Of course, that could be a good thing. OSU fans will once again be slapped upside the head with some more – yeah – c’mon – say it – stark, cold reality.
