I am writing this to all the Ohio State fans who just have no clue. That would be all of them, I guess.
I was talking to an OSU fan who seriously thought that Rodriguez should be fired after this season. He was either trying to convince me of it or was incredulous that I would hold a different opinion. Here’s why Michigan won’t fire Rodriguez and why most OSU fans are clueless.
1. Michigan invested to much money in Rodriguez to boot him now. They paid off most of his contract with West Virginia. Do you think they seriously would consider getting rid of him after one year?
2. He had little if anything to work with this year. Last year, Threet was a 3rd string quarterback and has proved he can’t run the spread offense effectively. He was recruited by Carr as a drop back passer. Sheridan is a walk-on. Neither had any playing time before this season. Schilling was the only returning starter on the offensive line. All the running backs that have played had little or no game experience prior to this year. Michigan lost five players to the NFL on offense alone including the number 1 draft pick, Jake Long.
3. He’s instituting a completely new system with the spread offense. Carr recruited players that fit his style of offense. Michigan understands that Rodriguez has to get personnel suited for his offense.
4. John Beilein. John Beilein was 10-22 in his first year as basketball coach for Michigan. One year later, he is already 3-1 and just beat then no. 4 ranked and traditional basketball powerhouse, UCLA. Michigan’s been through this before and understands that a new regime needs time to succeed.
5. Tommy Amaker – Michigan gave him six seasons to prove his stuff. They’ll do the same for Coach Rod.
6. John Cooper. It took Ohio State 13 years to get rid of him and he was 4-6-1 in his first year there.
7. 3-8. Rodriguez’s record in his first year at West Virginia.
8. 9-4. Rodriguez’s record in his second year at West Virginia.
9. Tate Forcier and Shavodrick Beaver – two recruits coming to Michigan next year who are more capable of running the spread than the current lot.
10. Mike Barwick. I’m still a major believer in his strength and conditioning system. Another year of it should reap major rewards for these players.

Two turnovers at home and Penn State only scores 17 points? And then they say “We’re back!”?
It will take more than a video of a game from 2005 to beat OSU this year. Though, after we beat Penn State, you can still watch your video and imagine what might have been, if it makes you feel better.
