After Michigan’s beating of UConn, I found myself at the Hartford Courant’s live chat of the Michigan/Connecticut game hosted by Desmond Connor and Jeff Jacobs. It provided me some of the most entertaining reading that I’ve recently had. A few Michigan fans apparently got in on the act throughout the game and posted some real zingers, but I think D Rob took the cake by ultimately completely silencing Connor and Jacobs. Prior to the game ending, they made some lame excuse that their computer hosting the chat was freezing up and signed off early. Here are the highlights:

[Comment From Guest]
todman is going to run all over the big house today…

JeffreyJacobs: Hey, Guest. My bet is after today’s game Mr. Todman will be a bigger name in college football than when he woke up this morning.

JeffreyJacobs: The offensive line, huge, experience, should set the tempo for this one. And Todman will find the holes in the gashes they open. That’s the way I see it anyway.

Desmond: He should have a field day. From everything I’m hearing UM’s dline isn’t that good and even if it was it would have a time with UConn’s oline
(Editor’s note: I’ve recently seen numerous examples of how poorly informed “analysts” are. This is a prime example. If anything M DLine is the strength of its defense)

At this point, a poll was taken and 65% have UConn winning.

A U of M fan chimes in:
[Comment From Denard Blue]
UConn is going to be systematically destroyed today. Just a heads up fellas no hard feelings

Feeling full of aplomb, Jacobs can’t resist:
JeffreyJacobs: Welcome Denard. I’m not sure the others will agree with you. I got UConn 31-27 by the way. And I’m considered the negative nabob sometimes.

[Comment From Rob from Texas]
I think we’re all going to see an offensive attack from UConn like we’ve never seen before.

UConn fan gets in dig at one of his own:
[Comment From Navin R. Johnson]
Jacobs must have listened to Kirk Heirbstriet…that is what he said yesterday. Any thoughts of your own Jeff?

UConn fan exhibits lack of class and ignorance:
[Comment From Matt S.]
When UCONN wins today, is the Rich-Rod era over in Michigan?

Jacobs, full of himself, spreads more misinformation:
JeffreyJacobs: I think the stake is being built right now, Matt. There are more than a few Michigan fans looking for a torch to light.

Jacobs even more full of himself:
JeffreyJacobs: I really do think the UConn running game will be the difference.

Jacobs assuming that UConn receivers can catch the ball:
JeffreyJacobs: I want to see if one of the receivers can break tackles for the YACs that Marcus Easley so provided last year. Leon Kinnard’s at receiver in the two deep and, of course, he can pitch ‘em too. Waiting for a gadget play involving him this year.

U of M fans tries to inject dose of reality:
[Comment From Denard Blue]
Dudes Rich Rod will be fine. How good has UConn been in the past at stopping spread teams?

Jacobs sets himself up big time here. Little does he realize that he will end up wishing for Pat White by the 2nd quarter:
JeffreyJacobs: Denard. Looking for some sparring. lol. Will point out Pat White isn’t playing for the Wolverines today

And how many of these players and coaches were around for that game? Relevance is lost on Connor.
Desmond: In the bag games…Mmms. I’m sure Michigan thought it had one in the bag against Appalachian State a few years back. No game is in the bag – but UConn should win

Here comes the 154th example of how beating ND makes UConn world beaters:
[Comment From Alex]
Do you think Zach Frazer can handle this kind of pressure?

[Comment From Lou from Florida]
My biggest concern is whether Zach can be steady and consistent. Do not give the game away… Do you all think he is ready for a big year? We’ll go the direction he goes.

JeffreyJacobs: Handled it South Bend last year.

Finally some UConn fans take on Denard Blue:
[Comment From Mike-in-Seoul]
denard, we’ve done okay with spread teams that didn’t have pat white at qb

[Comment From Hugh]
To be Rich Rodriguez would great just for the fact that he and his West Virginia Mountaineers put a 66-24 beating on Uconn in the Meineke Car Care Bowl a couple of years ago.

Desmond: Geez Hugh. Go back and check your facts dude., score is wrong, game is wrong, wasn’t a couple years ago, it was 2007 in a game that meant the big Easts title and and BCS to the winner…don’t just throw stuff out Hugh. We catch you here
Again Connor has no clue on relevance of comment – fact is RichRod crushed UConn recently does it really matter where and when?

[Comment From Brodie]
Meanwhile, you guys have never been able to stop a Rodrgiuez offense in the past

Connor sets himself up for a big fall just like Jacobs:
Desmond: Meanwhile, UM has never had a Pat White at quarterback. To be clear; N-E-V-E-R!!!!!

[Comment From Denard Blue]
Pat White may not be playing but Denard Robinson is. Faster version of Pat White

Desmond: OK Denard Blue tell us why Michigan is looking at playing 3 QBs today if you don’t mind?
Apparently, RichRod fooled Connor easily.

UConn fans somehow believe their team has greater team speed:
[Comment From Fred]
What’s more important for UCONN against Michigan? Team speed, athleticism or grit?

[Comment From Brodie]
Pat White, Denard Robinson… has UConn ever matched up against a mobile quarterback with any success?

Connor tries lay smack down on U of M fan but a few more minutes into this chat and Connor will be the one saying this to himself:
Desmond: Brodie. This is probably a good time to stop pretending you know anything about the UConn defense or, for that matter, what you’re talking about with regard to UConn at all. It’s OK to talk up Michigan, no problem but you look bad when you don’t know what you’re talking about and here, by asking this question, you clearly don’t

Connor, feeling his oats, refuses to approve a post but strangely addresses author (why not ignore it):
Desmond: NotATroll.

I’m not going to post your comment but if you don’t mind – and I’ll say this nicely – don’t ever post a comment, question or anything else over here again in your life. Thank You. Guess you don’t believe in God? You’ll have to answer to HIm for this one.

3:32 and close to kickoff:
[Comment From Denard Blue]
Our DLine matches up well against your OLine.
Truer words have n’er been said.

UConn goes three and out and punts – Jacobs takes solace that U of M starts at own 4 yard line:
JeffreyJacobs: hurd misses block..nothing for todman..nothing on the pass on the first play either
JeffreyJacobs: false start. UConn. Not a good start
JeffreyJacobs: Zach under duress. Way short for Kashif Moore.
JeffreyJacobs: great punt and great job by Frey to stop touchback

[Comment From Denard Blue]
Boy terrible start for that awesome UConn O Line

[Comment From thomas]
is shoemate going to see the field alot today? sorry if this has already been answered
Maybe one time too many.

[Comment From Real Time Realist]
Randy Edsall is about to get owned once again by RichRod. As bad as RichRod is, he’s made a career out of making Randy Edsall look like a fool.

JeffreyJacobs: Denard off to a big start

[Comment From Denard Blue]
Denard making you dudes look foolish

[Comment From Guest]
Yea Denard is running all over the place. We gotta stop him somehow

Desmond: doing it inside, too, not so much outside, that’s scary

JeffreyJacobs: got the first down

[Comment From Real Time Realist]
I guess I missed the story in the Hartford Courant about this team having no leadership rudder. Zach Frazer has proved time and time again that he’s a “me first” player. Jordan Todman likely doesn’t see November before he’s suspended for doing something dumb.

JeffreyJacobs: Wow. Wide open.

[Comment From Blue&White]
Thought the idea was to stack the box and make Robinson throw the ball?

Desmond: who said that???

Desmond: Huskies getting gashed by Robinson inside

Reality sets in at 3:50 p.m. EST for Jacobs – took all of 20 minutes, if that:
JeffreyJacobs: Is Pat White inside that No. 16 uniform?

[Comment From Real Time Realist]
Randy Edsall = Owned.
(Michigan scores after 96 yard drive)

Here comes the instant analysis:
JeffreyJacobs: Crazy missed tackles

Desmond: terrible job by the defense, terrible and poor tackling too

JeffreyJacobs: Horrible first series by offense and horrible first series by the defense.

Desmond: 96 yard drive, 14 plays, 5:57 used

JeffreyJacobs: Couldn’t have been a worse opening 7:27

Desmond: especially on the road

UConn must have not come back and won these games:
[Comment From I Am A Guest]
UCONN can come back and win, remember all those games against Tennessee, Geno and the Huskies came back to win numerous of those, it’s not the end of the world if the other team scores first

UConn fans are betting the farm on “strength” of ND game:

[Comment From ShapDaddy]
not a great start against ND if i remember correctly. its still early, its ok. we’re fine

[Comment From robertinraleigh]
Need a big return remember, we were down to Notre Dame.

[Comment From ShapDaddy]
30-10 vs. cincy. this team won’t quit i can assure u

[Comment From Blue&White]
Afew first downs would be ok, it’s too early to paic yet, but it’s time to establish that line-of-scrimmiage advantage UCONN was suposed to have.

[Comment From thomas]
yeah definetly more then one missed tackle. offense and defense each had a chance to get the nerves out. now its time to show them SMASH MOUTH FOOTBALL BABY!!!! lets go UCONN

UConn receiver misses pass near goal line:
JeffreyJacobs: Got to make that catch. But he heard the footsteps. Rough day for Smith. He got hit before the game, too

UConn attempts FG:
JeffreyJacobs: 41 a little into the wind. it’s close to his limit given the situation

JeffreyJacobs: blocked 80 and 4 leaping

After professing that UConn had more team speed the U of M, Jacobs receives epiphany #2:
JeffreyJacobs: This is getting a little scary folks. Lots of speed for Mich.

[Comment From Tony from NB]
yup… are we really this slow?

[Comment From Guest]
UCONN lacks speed

JeffreyJacobs: 96 and 77 yard drives. yikes
U of M scores again – 14-0

[Comment From Blue&White]
Appalacian State was more competetive in the Big House than we are so far.

Desmond: bad defensive set there. Robinson destroying Huskies on read option and tackling not good, 77 yards in 7 plays, 2:35….didn’t expect this.

[Comment From Real Time Realist]
Can we start the UConn overrated chant yet?

Jacobs eats words:
JeffreyJacobs: remember when i said part white ain’t walking through that door. i may have to rethink that one.

[Comment From Fred]
No, you were right, Jeff. That’s not Pat White. That’s Denard Robinson. He’ll write his own story.

[Comment From Real Time Realist]
Don’t worry, UConn can probably hang with Buffalo.

ROTGL:
[Comment From Denard Robinson]
I ain’t even tired fools

Jacobs gets sense of deja vu:
JeffreyJacobs: feel like I’m in Morgantown

[Comment From scalz1]
Uconn receivers still have butter on their fingers from the lobster rolls

[Comment From Blue&White]
Real Time, not this UCONN team, this group couldn’t stay with UHartford right now

[Comment From Herman]
Speed always kills uconn, just like last year

[Comment From ken]
Did the Offense practice

[Comment From Kev]
Is this the UConn practice squad?

Desmond: uconn d line getting beat up pretty bad

[Comment From Jacobs Fan]
This is really funny. Offense stinks, defense stinks. Both lines stink. UConn stinks

[Comment From UM Alum in CT]
RichROd has focused on speed in his recruiting. WE were down because of inexperience, but now some of these recruits are upperclassmen. There had to be a difference

[Comment From Real Time Realist]
Randy Edsall is on the sidelines right now scripting his post game speech where he blames everything on the players. “They didn’t execute.”

[Comment From Tony from NB]
couldn’t have started any worse

[Comment From Jeff from Torrington]
Guys did the team drink the kool-aid on how good they are?

Reality is pounding Jacobs over the head hard now:
JeffreyJacobs: It sure didn’t seem so going into this. But we’ve got some quick re-assessing to do as this game progresses

[Comment From bigtime]
According to Desmond BC coaches are on the sidelines trying to get Uconn players to transfer, thus why they are not playng well

[Comment From Guest]
on a serious note i feel bad for jeff and desmond as the game is already over. do try to play golf on the michigan course tomorrow across the street from the stadium, great layout. regards.

[Comment From Real Time Realist]
Drank the Kool-Aid, they clearly bathed in it.

[Comment From Jacobs fan2]
Nice prediction Jacobs haha

Jacobs and Connor start to check out – the golf course is just across the street guys!:
JeffreyJacobs: didn’t see this coming. i admit it

[Comment From Real Time Realist]
Is Desmond tearing up yet?

Connor can’t take it:
Desmond: Real Time Realist. What is wrong with you?

[Comment From Jacobs Fan]
Jeff: Can we say UConn stinks?

JeffreyJacobs: Of course you can

[Comment From Jacobs Fan]
UConn stinks.

Connor doesn’t realize that his terrible pre-game analysis may have invoked some ire. It’s time to eat crow Desmond:
Desmond: It is sad isn’t it? And how silly can you get attacking writers who cover the team. We don’t suit up. Im not playing Michigan and neither is Jake. Really, really silly.

The chat goes on for quite some time and Connor and Jacobs’ posts get fewer and fewer. It was entertaining watching their overhyped balloon get deflated and then to see them get upset when their chat went sour.

Top line goes to Denard Robinson – “I ain’t even tired yet, fools!”

Brilliant!
